FMS eNews 27/03/14

Before I begin this week’s enewsletter, a quick reminder that this weekend marks the beginning of British Summer Time. So remember to move your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night.
If you are going to be at the fibromyalgia conference in Chichester this weekend please make yourself known to me.  I believe we will all be wearing lanyards with identification badges. Also, Sunday is Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday to give it it's traditional name.  I hope that all of you who are mothers have a happy day with or without your families!

Enzymes - by Norah Wickerson

Norah Wickerson
Enzymes are vital to life. They are composed of amino acids, hence made of protein and they act to lower the amount of energy every reaction needs by greatly accelerating it.
Over 3,000 bodily reactions totally depend on these biological catalysts from digestion, circulation, breathing, thinking and every chemical reaction happening in our body.
This is known as Metabolism - and there are 2 types of metabolism.

9 Things You Can Do to Avoid Fibromyalgia Pain and Fatigue

1. I'm having a hard time getting things done. What can I do?
Because you have good days and bad days with fibromyalgia, start each morning assessing how you feel. If you didn't sleep well the night before, plan your day accordingly and arrange to do less. If you feel well rested and your pain is tolerable, do more -- but remember that moderation is key. Always be flexible. You never know when you'll have a flare, so listen to your body and take breaks when you need them.

Every person with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and/or fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) has a unique presentation of these conditions with various complications and sets of symptoms. There is no one treatment that can “cure” these syndromes or that is helpful to everyone however a combined approach of therapies can lead to an improved quality of life. Listed below are strategies and therapies that have been beneficial for others and myself.

There are 24 aspects of healing outlined here:

HOPE

I occasionally receive negative comments on my blog from persons with CFS and FMS. This happens most often when I attempt to connect with others in on line support groups. I understand that this is part of presenting material on the Internet but nevertheless it is disturbing. The fact is there are many people with CFS and FMS that are resistant to hearing about avenues of healing that they are not familiar with and suspicious about stories of recovery. Some cannot understand the complexities of the topics I write about and want a simple explanation for their condition. Some have even questioned my motives for writing about the treatments that have helped me and the validity of my experience. This is sad indeed yet I try to not take it personally. I know that these responses stem from fear and suffering that is part of the CFS and FMS experience.

Pridgen Reports Fibromyalgia Antiviral Trial Results “Very Positive” : Predicts New Approach Will Be “Game-Changer”

With 90% of the data from their big Fibromyalgia antiviral study in, Dr. William “Skip” Pridgen reported in the Tuscaloosa News  that the results were ‘very positive’. Pridgen enthusiastically stated, “We feel we are on the right track and feel this is a real game changer,” and not just for Fibromyalgia. Dr. Pridgen reported ‘very positive’ results with 90% of the data from the trial in. “It is a tip of the iceberg. What we are discovering will accomplish so much more,” Pridgen reported, which surely means he believes his approach will work, perhaps in a modified manner, in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and similar disorders. Pridgen’s antiviral trial began last year.  It involves not one but two antivirals, one of which is believed to have a strong anti-inflammatory component.  His is the first antiviral trial to occur in FM.

Got an health issue you’d like ten of the most experienced ME/CFS/FM doctors on the planet to take a jab at? Here’s your chance. Once  a month we will ask the community for  questions (make them tough ones!) regarding a personal health issue they would like answered. I or the community will pick the Question of the Month and then we’ll give it to our ten person ME/CFS expert physician panel to cchew on. Each practitioner will be working alone, and will be given the opportunity to ask further questions of the patient. They’ll be given about two weeks to respond. The answers will be posted on a blog (sans the questioners name and email address) once a month.

If you are one of my FaceBook Friends you may have been asked to send me some 'lives'. I have to confess that I have spent some time recently playing Facebook games concerning animals, fish, jewels, candy, vegetables, fruit, balls, bubbles etc.  When credit is used up the games urge you to ask Friends for help.  I have tried NOT to do this but sometimes it is unavoidable. Life's a bit like that.  We try not to ask for help if we can possibly manage by ourselves, when, for all we know, there are people only too happy to lend a hand. Actually I've found these games to be quite theraputic, so not to be lightly dismissed!

Fondest wishes
Stella

N.B.  I would like to point out to you that the information in my FMS eNews blog is passed on to you mainly from other sources.
Links are given to the original articles. I take no responsibility for their accuracy but freely give them publicity if I think they might be of interest to my readership. Sites I refer you to are for information only. They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will. Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life. Any advice or recommendation of a medical or legal nature should always be discussed with a qualified professional.
I also include various awareness items, benefits issues, as well as general health considerations. Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the included items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.
Wordz for the Week are from ‘Wordz for the Day’ by Donnie Kuhn, Sr. who died in May 2011.
This eNews is my personal offering to fibromyalgia sufferers and their carers and is not related to any other organisation or charity.
If you don’t already get reminders when each new FMS eNews is posted, please send an email to fmsstella@gmail.com and you will be added to the emailing list.
