Families can be a great support.  I hope yours are for you.  I am very fortunate in mine.  Some of them I live with.  Last weekend my son visited us. This weekend, my sister and her husband.  So there has been much catching up and re-bonding.  It is great when we get together.  I think that meeting up with family and friends can be a real tonic.  Better than the bottled kind!

From Adrienne Dellwo

Adrienne Dellwo
A lot of people have asked me about tooth and mouth problems in FMS and ME/CFS. This is one of those issues with sparse research but plenty of anecdotal evidence. I've summed up what we know, below.
Also this week, why sleep problems may lead to fibromyalgia, and how to protect your private health information online - and why you really need to!
Down in Featured Articles, you can learn all about some of our common overlapping conditions.

FMA UK requests support for BHF Petition re prescription charges for those with Long-term Conditions

We’re expecting the Government to announce a further increase in the price of prescriptions in England any day now. That’s why FMA UK, as a member of the Prescription Charges Coalition, is launching an online petition, calling on the Government to end unfair, outdated and arbitrary prescription charges for everyone with a long-term condition. The petition, hosted by the British Heart Foundation is easy to fill in. Just click here to add your support and please forward to family, friends and colleagues too.

(If you didn't sign the petition last week please do so now.)
Another suggestion is for people to write to their local newspapers.  MPs read their local newspapers, so this would be another great way to raise political awareness.

Stress By Any Other Name: Inflammation, ‘Stress’ and Chronic Fatigue and Fibromalygia: An Inquiry

One of the most puzzling aspects of my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyaglia has been my body’s unusual sensitivity to stress. Oddly, it’s not the big stressful events,  it’s the smaller, day to day stuff that’s been so confronting. It’s that roller coaster ride of symptoms that can sometimes flare up with the slightest nudge.  It’s those fluey symptoms that show up particularly when I’m exhausted and feeling down.

Shape Shifting Pain: How Chronic Pain Turns the Brain More ‘Emotional’

Recently we saw that some people appear to be sitting ducks for chronic pain.  Their brains have apparently reached a state, unbeknownst to them, where all that’s needed for a chronic pain state to emerge is a triggering event such as an injury. That triggering even starts a process which changes both the grey matter (neurons) and the connections between different parts of their brain.

Drugs for Fibromyalgia: How Good Are They?
March 5th, 2014 by Dr. John Quintner

Most fibromyalgia sufferers will at some stage be offered a prescription for one or more of the officially approved drugs – Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella.
Many will ask their doctors two important questions: How good are these drugs and what harm can they cause me?
Many would be surprised by the answers they get – if the doctor is willing and able to provide them.

N.B. I would like to point out to you that the information in my FMS eNews blog is passed on to you mainly from other sources.
Links are given to the original articles. I take no responsibility for their accuracy but freely give them publicity if I think they might be of interest to my readership. Sites I refer you to are for information only. They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will. Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life. Any advice or recommendation of a medical or legal nature should always be discussed with a qualified professional.
I also include various awareness items, benefits issues, as well as general health considerations. Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the included items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.
Wordz for the Week are from ‘Wordz for the Day’ by Donnie Kuhn, Sr. who died in May 2011.
This eNews is my personal offering to fibromyalgia sufferers and their carers and is not related to any other organisation or charity.
If you don’t already get reminders when each new FMS eNews is posted, please send an email to fmsstella@gmail.com and you will be added to the emailing list.
