A Happy Easter to everyone
I hope you are able to enjoy the Easter weekend with the Bank Holidays
included. The weather might be dubious
but I hope you are not prevented from doing whatever you have planned. My plans include going to Torquay in
Devon on Monday for a few days’
break. Because of this I will not be
able to produce the normal eNews next week.
Nevertheless look out for my usual email. I hope the weather improves!

The Pursuit of Happyness – By
Purple Law Lady
Simone, Purple Law Lady |
Contrary to popular
belief, happiness doesn’t come from fame, fortune, or money. (We would still
have FM if we were rich!) Rather, it comes from within. Happy people are happy
because they make themselves happy. They maintain a positive
outlook on life and remain at peace with themselves.
The question is: how do they do that?
It’s quite simple. Happy
people have good habits that enhance their lives. They do things differently.
Ask any happy person, and they will tell you that they … What?

Many people suggest that fibromyalgia has a connection with several
other syndromes, primarily chronic fatigue and irritable bowel. There are
some compelling arguments for this connection based on adrenal fatigue and
vagus nerve dysfunction. I just came across another study that proposes a
connection between fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic
arthritis is a type of arthritis or joint inflammation that affects people with
the skin condition psoriasis. This study looked at 78 people, 34 who had
been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Of these 34, 53% of them also
had fibromyalgia compared to 4.5% of the others. Click Here to access the study.
Honestly I had not heard of psoriatic arthritis until I saw the commercials
with golfer Phil Mickelson talking about his battle with it.

About Dannette:
Danette |
Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1997, I have been learning to live well
with it ever since. In 2008 I founded FibroHaven Support Foundation, creating a
community of compassion, understanding, and healing for those learning to live
well with chronic illness. Inspired by my advocacy with FibroHaven, I now work
as a Life Coach, empowering others with chronic illness to live rich,
fulfilling lives in spite of their illness. In 2009 I was introduced to the
practices of Gentle and Restorative Yoga – nourishing and awakening my mind,
body, and spirit – and a new passion was born. In the spring of 2011 I received
a 200hr yoga teacher
certification from Light and Love Yoga School and will soon graduate as a 500hr
certified instructor.

About Felicia
I’d like to think that
everything that I do in life is done with passion. To me it’s not worth doing
something if you don’t believe whole-heartedly in it! I enjoy photography,
flowers, baking, traveling and bicycling and am an
active volunteer with my local Arthritis Foundation office. Everyone
who knows me also knows my favorite color is purple.
I started this blog in
hopes that I would be able to create a community where people with fibromyalgia
and other medical conditions relate. I planned to share resources I have found
to be helpful as well as my own personal tips and tricks. I am lucky enough to
know a few other ladies with fibromyalgia and will sometimes share their
experiences as well. Please let me know if you would like me to cover a
particular topic. Read more about why I

The Voices of Fibro
People who suffer from fibromyalgia experience problems beyond the pain
caused by their illness. Their condition is little understood and hard to
explain, and often they are disbelieved by doctors. Even friends and loved ones
may express skepticism toward the fibromyalgia sufferer, who, burdened with
inexplicable pain, may cancel social plans, miss work and recoil from physical
affection because it hurts too much.

For people with
fibromyalgia, dealing with symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue, and insomnia
is only part of the battle. The disorder can also cause emotional distress,
relationship problems, and social struggles.
Even if your loved ones don’t fully understand what you’re going through, you don’t need to cope with fibromyalgia alone. There’s a wide range of online resources to help you better understand the disorder and connect with other individuals to share the low (and occasional high) points of living with fibro.

How the Fibromyalgia Brain Responds When
Observing Others in Pain
Chronic
widespread pain is a hallmark of fibromyalgia (FM). Previous neuroimaging
studies have reported that the pain neuro-matrix in patients with FM showed
augmented activation in response to actual pain. However, the effect of
observing pain in others among patients with FM remains poorly understood.
Could a Common B-12 Deficiency Be Causing Your Symptoms?
Less than 20 years ago, patients complaining of fatigue were often given
a "tonic shot" by their doctor. Many people claimed this worked like
magic to improve their energy levels. What was this miracle tonic? A simple
injection of vitamin B-12.
Although the practice of administering vitamin B-12 injections has
fallen out of favor, modern medical science now understands why vitamin B-12
supplementation makes people feel better, and the reasons extend far beyond
just the "placebo effect" of receiving a shot.

Creating The Right Diet For
Fibromyalgia. How Does A Healthy Diet
Help?
Maintaining a healthy diet
is important for everyone, but for patients with fibromyalgia it is especially
critical. Proper nutrition can help fight fatigue and improve sleep and overall
health. Some patients with fibromyalgia also find eating certain types of
foods, such as fried food or food high in sugar makes symptoms worse.

Fibromyalgia Tender Points
Tender points are pain points or localized areas of
tenderness around joints, but not the joints themselves. These tender points
hurt when pressed with a finger.
Tender
points are often not deep areas of pain. Instead, they are superficial areas
seemingly under the surface of the skin, such as the area
over the elbow or shoulder.
Herbs and Supplements for Fibromyalgia
Managing the symptoms
of fibromyalgia or related ailments is not easy. So, many patients turn to
alternative therapies for relief of pain and sleep problems. They may use
Chinese herbs or over-the-counter supplements
such as 5-HTP, melatonin,
and SAM-e.

Fibromyalgia: The Heavy-Metals Connection
Have You Tried Everything Else to Fix
Your FMS Symptoms? Try a Chelation-Challenge Test
Since 1992 I have suffered
from the symptoms of hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia. I had just given birth to
my third child and thought at first that I was just tired from poor sleep while
fighting off mycoplasmal bronchitis and nursing a newborn. Then one day I
winter-pruned our roses and raked the leaves--and have never been the same since.
The muscle fatigue, tension, and pain started in my neck and has gradually
moved into nearly every muscle in my body, including the involuntary ones. I
can only hope it will not soon affect my heart.

sources. Links are given to the
original articles. I take no

Sites I refer you to are for
information only. They might conflict in their opinions, they might not
even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make
your own judgements, accept or reject as you will. Only by reading widely
can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with
its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life. Any advice or recommendation of a medical or
legal nature should always be discussed with a qualified professional.
I also include
various awareness items, benefits issues, as well as general health
considerations. Anyone wishing to
