Jarred Younger on his New Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Lab

Jarred Younger dazzled attendees with his leptin and chronic fatigue syndrome presentation at the Stanford Symposium earlier this year.  His pilot study that measured dozens of inflammatory markers every day in chronic fatigue syndrome patients produced one of the most visually startling graphics I’ve ever seen – an “all roads lead to Rome” type of plot that showed an array of immune factors converging on one… the putative trigger of them all: leptin.
 (See the video here.)

The picture is of me at a recent ongoing training day.  I have been a Body Pump instructor for 11 years and although I don’t teach it regularly now, I do participate.  In the picture are two instructors I respect.  Sally Brown on the left who first brought me to the front of the class to demonstrate a move when she was injured (and I rather liked it) and on the right Lu Mays who taught the very first class I attended.

Palm Challenge

Announcing Fibromyalgia Palm Challenge to raise awareness have created the Fibromyalgia Palm Challenge with a purpose to make the world understand Fibromyalgia  (FMS) and the people  suffering from it, and to help people get diagnosed in time. People with this syndrome suffer with everything from 24x7 chronic pain to hypersensitivities, from cognitive dysfunction to inability to lead a normal life, but more importantly, they suffer from lack of awareness. The most painful thing is to explain to people what they are going through. Since, people with this chronic debilitating illness do not look sick, they end up facing lot of indifference and harsh comments.

With this little challenge, I aim to raise awareness on a larger scale. There are no donations involved and the steps are really simple. People taking the challenge just need to read and understand what Fibromyalgia is all about. Not only will it result in a better understanding of the syndrome, it will hopefully bring relief to millions of fibromyalgia patients who are tired of explaining to people what they are going through.

Beating the Bloat: FODMAPS – the Best Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The holidays are over. If you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), however, that holiday infusion of good, rich food may have left your gut bloated, gurgling, gassy, stopped up, or loosened up at some point.
IBS is a complex disorder that researchers are still learning about, but they’re pretty clear that four factors play a role: hypersensitivity reactions, increased gut transit time (motility), higher than normal amounts of fermentation, and malabsorption of sugar.
Developed by Peter Gibson and Susan Shepherd at the University of Melbourne, Australia around 2000 and published in 2009, the odd-sounding FODMAPS diet addresses two of these factors: fermentation and sugar malabsorption.

A Fibromyalgia Patient’s Ten Strategies for Healing - By Darden Burns on January 4, 2015

I am weary of reading about studies on the cause of fibromyalgia pain. Theories about altered pain perception, disordered sleep and immune dysregulation, etc might be interesting to a medical scientist but they are not particularly helpful for a person suffering from fibromyalgia.
What is needed is a list of strategies that are helpful for patients keeping in mind that each person is unique and what might help one person may not help another. There are no absolutes when it comes to health and this is particular true of complex conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
My suggestions are based on my personal experience of living  with fibromyalgia pain for twelve years and ultimately finding treatments that resulted in significant reversal of my symptoms, communicating with others from my blog “Fibro Friends” for the past seven years, and sharing information with other patients I met at a fibromyalgia clinic where I spent three months.

13 Ways To Improve Your Health In 60 Seconds Or Less

If you're the type of person who is constantly wondering where the day went, you probably just about jumped for joy at the recent study that found that just one minute of intense exercise (during an easy 10-minute workout) could improve health.
While that doesn't mean you should give up your lengthier workouts in favor of mere minutes of activity, it does add some strength to the comforting belief that every little bit counts.

And perhaps the best news of all is that it's not the only way in which you can improve your well-being in 60 seconds or less. Here are a few other ways to boost your health in just one minute.

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome with many symptoms. Each individual with Fibromyalgia will have some of the symptoms. A few people will have all of the symptoms, but not everyone with Fibro has the same symptoms or even has symptoms all of the time.  Also, symptoms may vary from day to day, year to year, or even minute to minute for each person coping with Fibromyalgia and other  common coexisting conditions as well.
How confusing is that? Well, it gets even more confusing!

New studies find causes of fibromyalgia, offer hope of relief

Two new studies on fibromyalgia focus the problem on the thyroid, pituitary and hypothalamus, and suggest new avenues of relief for sufferers.
Research from the Fibromyalgia Research Foundation reveals deficient thyroid hormone regulation (DTHR) as an underlying cause of Fibromyalgia (FM). Poor diet, poor physical fitness and metabolism slowing drugs are primary contributors to symptoms as do additional hormonal imbalances of cortisol, estrogen and progesterone.

Operation Affirmation – by Purple Law Lady

Affirmations are a way for us to harness the mind's power by directing our intentions toward our best selves and our happiest lives.  Say this phrase to yourself all day long. Write it down, email it to yourself, and post it where you will see it all day.

Day 28 - I project love to everyone I meet
Day 29 - Happiness is a choice
Day 30 - I love and aprove of myself
Day 31 - The past has no power over me any more

Love your day, love yourself, love your life!
Say good-bye to the past and hello to the future:

To Affirm or Not To Affirm – A Question - By Purple Law Lady

So, after 31 days of affirmations, are you feeling empowered? Reassured? Are you on the way to relinquishing your fears and purging your anger, predicting your own future and living up to your potential?
Or (and be honest) did you find yourself reading the affirmations and feeling all sorts of angry? Feeling forced into positive thinking?
Okay, so it doesn’t work for everybody: it floats some people’s boats and, for others, it has more of a torpedo effect!
Megan Bruneau, from MindBodyGreen, has created a list of reminders (call them whatever you wanna call them), that actually help her live her own best life:

Neurontin and Lyrica are a Death Sentence for New Brain Synapses

Neurontin and its newer more potent version, Lyrica, are widely used for off-label indications that are an outright flagrant danger to the public. These blockbuster drugs were approved for use even though the FDA had no idea what they actually did in the brain. A shocking new study shows that they block the formation of new brain synapses1, drastically reducing the potential for rejuvenating brain plasticity – meaning that these drugs will cause brain decline faster than any substance known to mankind.
